Barnwell Entertainers are pleased to announce that our next production will be the hilarious “A Bunch of Amateurs” by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman
“A washed-up Hollywood star, Jefferson Steele, is unexpectedly flown to England to play the iconic role of King Lear at what he believes will be the legendary Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon—the birthplace of Shakespeare. Instead of the grand RST, Jefferson finds himself signed on with the “Stratford Players” in the quaint Suffolk village of Stratford St John.
The local villagers, a motley crew of amateur actors, are thrilled to have Jefferson joining their ranks. Jefferson, a typically selfish American with little regard for manners, initially considers himself too big for this humble setting. As he navigates the transition from Hollywood celebrity to a humble actor, he discovers unexpected connections, reconciles with his estranged daughter and learns that talent and intelligence know no boundaries.”
The group having read the play and the roles now cast, Director Martin Picken is overseeing a weekly rehearsal schedule and progress has been good. The nature of the three set play presents some technical challenges but the group are confident of pulling it off.
Performance dates are 27th, 28th and 29th November and tickets will be on sale at the usual outlets 6-8 weeks in advance.
